Gary Baseman is an artist who’s work spans a variety of mediums including illustration, animation, fashion and toys. He’s won three Emmy Awards for the cartoon he created for Disney, Teacher’s Pet, which was also turned into a feature film in 2004.

The Door Is Always Open, at the Skirball Cultural Center recently presented the first major retrospective of Baseman’s career to date.

The show was designed to resemble a tour of a house, highlighting the intensely personal nature of his work. We met up with Gary while we where in town for CS Los Angeles for a chat and a tour of his workspace.
