That was the thinking behind strategist/copywriter Jon Burkhart’s, the world’s first blog dedicated to real-time content. Four years on, and with a book on the topic under his belt (‘Newsjacking: The Urgent Genius of Real-time Advertising’) he spends his time creating ‘brand newsrooms’ so that agencies can deliver brilliant content, fast.

AKQA, Lean Mean Fighting Machine and Cheil are just some of the agencies he’s taught to catch the zeitgeist, and his work has featured on sites from Mashable to The Guardian and Rolling Stone. He knows about going viral, that’s for sure.

Jon’s a prominent speaker at South By Southwest Interactive (SXSWi), and also leads workshops for D&AD, so we’re in for a treat at this Innovation Social. He’ll be talking about his Millennial Mentoring initiative ¬– which mixes young digital natives from Austin and London with CEOs – and how similar approaches can shake businesses up for the better. He’ll be showing us what we can learn from this project, and discussing why brands should pipe down and listen to their audiences to create authentic content and lasting connections.
