The role of Innovation within ad agencies

Yesterday I started a new job as Head of Innovation of Cheil UK. Given this is a new role for me, I thought it would be useful to get some direction from some of my friends/peers on how they view the role of innovation within an advertising agency (beyond what I already knew from my own experiences as well as the excellent pieces by Ben Malbon on the topic of Chief Innovation Officers). Those that kindly lent me their words of wisdom were as follows (thanks guys): Adam Good, Executive Vice President at Proximity Worldwide Andy Kinsella, Innovation Director at Glue Isobar Andy...

Video Painting by SWEAT SHOPPE

Nice technology by multimedia duo SWEAT SHOPPE AKA Bruno Levy and Blake Shaw who have developed an interactive technology that enables them to essentially "paint" video onto any surface. Shooting in Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, the duo spent weeks documenting their work in urban settings to create "The Landing" the first in a series of episodes that showcases their work as artist, technologist and performers. This is the type of stuff I love to see - when we remove technology...

Augmented Reality goes 3D

Last week I attended eComm conference here in Amsterdam. One of the speakers was Claire Boonstra of Layar - a Dutch based startup who have developed an augmented reality browser for mobile and are soon to release version 3.0 - which is 3D. 3D Layar enables developer to create 3D objects in the virtual dimension. Demos of this range from 3D game objects to seeing a jumbo jet fly by or walking in an "experience dome" which provides an alternative world to the viewer. If you have some time there's a video of Raimo van...
