CS Beirut: Bernard Khoury

Bernard started by telling us a little about himself. Born in Beirut, he moved to America to study Architecture. After graduating he was tempted back to his homeland by the potential he could see in post-war Lebanon. He spent the first few years producing 'paper architecture', projects that never left the studio. He soon realised that the city was built by the private sector, with the total absence of any institutional involvement. Jackson Allers was our final speaker at Obros. Writer, journalist, DJ, and event organiser, Jackson talked about the journey he had been on that brought him from America to Beirut. Having grown up listening to Hip Hop, Jackson moved to LA from Texas and became part of scene working with artists like DJ Shadow and Gill Scott Heron. Joining us for the second day was internationally renowned fashion and celebrity photographer, Andre Rau. He talked about the origins of his career, befriending Roman Polanski at the age of 21 and developing his craft in studios of Paris (where he still lives today). Andre's portfolio reads like a 'who's hot?' list of the last few decades and he has worked as the official Cannes photographer for a number of years.
