Small is beautiful: doing good digital ‘integration’ and the end of the big idea

You’ve spent the last five years trying to do ‘integrated’ work, in other words, your TV ad, your press ad and your website all look the same. You’re very proud because you’ve just about mastered integration. Well, here’s the bad news: you missed the point. Man on the Wire meets Wired for Nikon

Little ad we've done for Nikon on Wired magazine on the  iPad. The iPad's display was the perfect canvas for the 16.2 megapixel megahot photos the D7000 can capture. But this isn’t just about a fancy camera. This is about gadgetry. So we invented a way to use Wired’s iPad functionality. Users could use one finger to navigate through an ad experience, not just spin a 3D model. Wired is repeating the ad so for all US users, download march issue and you'll see it.

Small is beautiful

In the book we published last month, Digital Advertising: Past, Present, and Future, I write an essay about good digital integration and the end of the big idea. My routine/fixation with doing good digital integration across channels got me thinking: can these channels also be used to create brand ideas. Could we potentially test loads of small ideas across different channels and see what sticks? And, could we potentially start with a small idea and then make it big? Couldn’t things like a smart partnership or remixing engagement platforms also be big ideas? Hopefully you have bought the book and...

Shark Awards

Tanya Cawley is the Festival Manager for the Shark Awards and she's trying to make the whole thing more digital. She needs our help. How? Entering work is a good start. Tweeting and talking about it could help too. And finally, keep in touch with her for some future judging. Here's a little blurb from Tanya: Kinsale Sharks a now 48 Year Old Festival are in the process of building up awareness for the 2010 Sharks Awards, and this year we have decided to do a couple of different...
