Creative Social at the Phoenix Hotel #cssf

Home to the socials in San Francisco was the Phoenix Hotel – the cities original rock hotel where artists such as The Psychedelic Furs, Pearl Jam and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers have stayed. While we were there the Swedish Indie Rock Band – Peter Bjorn & John landed in, but were forced to sleep in their tour bus outside since the rock stars of the digital world had booked all of the rooms.

The Phoenix Hotel has character. Located in the gritty, central, Tenderloin district, the hotel boasts a large car park (for your tour bus) and the no frills reception area is staffed by thirty-something, hipsters who manage to achieve an oh so helpful yet oh so chilled approach – which is very refreshing.
Leaving the reception area you immediately hit the retro, heated pool surrounded by palm trees, loungers and some very interesting statues such as a guitar playing frog. This area doubles as a heated area to enjoy your typical American breakfast of coffee, OJ, pastries and bagels with cream cheese and jam.

The bedrooms themselves maintain the hotel’s no frills approach but they are clean, adequately spacious, well ventilated and very comfortable – not forgetting the unforgettable 70s-esque, floral print.

Last but not least, The Phoenix Hotel is home to The Bambuddah Bar. The hotel clearly prioritized the bar when it came to the hotel’s floor space as the bar is probably about 10 times the size of the reception area and is a cosy, softly lit space that hosts DJs over the weekends. Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to enjoy the bar yet, but maybe next time.

Overall, if your looking for a fun, relaxed stay at a place where grunge meets funk – then The Pheonix is a great choice although probably not recommended for families!
